MOMENT NYC is a living museum and cultural organization dedicated to the history of music in New York City and supporting its vibrant music communities, through performances, exhibits and education programs that unite and provide intergenerational connection.
Operating in tandem with educators, musicians, venues, and institutions, we celebrate music culture and diversity in the context of New York City history with the goal of inspiring young artists, supporting independent musicians, and preserving a legacy of innovation and artistry.
MOMENT NYC advocates for the support of musicians, music students, and naturally occurring music communities throughout their life cycles and promotes the importance of music to the human condition.
We produce interactive live events, exhibits, educational programming, and community-centered experiences that encourage participation, knowledge sharing, and musically open minds.
MOMENT NYC’s mission is to interpret, support, and celebrate the role of independent music in NYC and beyond through performance, exhibition, and education. Our programs support independent artist communities and individual artistic vision with work opportunities that promote diverse musical connections, and cross-generational dialog drawn from local music history.
The MOMENT Community is a network of citizens, music professionals, performers, historians, educators, community organizations, and local heroes who collectively make up the living Museum of Music & Entertainment in NYC. EDUCATION
MOMENT NYC provides a unique New York City music
history program for grades 4-12. Through performance
and interaction we engage students in local history, music appreciation, music literacy, and musical instruction.
PERFORMANCE
We create accessible, performances, interactive exhibits, educational programming, and community-centered events that encourage participation and advance the musical innovation of future generations through access and knowledge sharing.
PRESErVATION
We strive to cultivate and preserve the musical communities and cultures of New York — bringing music history to schools, advocating for musicians rights and local music business, and creating work for local musicians – with the ultimate goal of creating a permanent space for a comprehensive history of New York City music.
